I first visited Manipur in 1999 with my family. At that time, it was declared as a disturbed state with daily curfews from 6 PM to 6 AM. Despite the challenges, the experience was one-of-a-kind. One of the unique things I saw was the only floating national park in the world, the Loktak Lake in the outskirts of Imphal. It was so serene and beautiful.Another unique experience was visiting the Ima Market, a market in Imphal run entirely by women. This unique bazaar has been a part of Manipuri culture since the 16th century and is a great example of women's empowerment.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who formed the Indian National Army during World War II, hosted the inaugural flag of the INA in Moirang, Imphal. This place is a must-see for history enthusiasts. Additionally, Myanmar is just a 3-hour drive from Imphal. In 1999, we were offered a day trip to Myanmar without a visa, but due to the curfew restrictions, we declined the offer. However, that remains one of my main reasons to visit Manipur again.
Conclusion: Manipur, with its natural beauty, cultural richness, and adventure opportunities, provides a unique experience. It's a place that runs in my family to explore, and I'm excited to relive my memories and explore new adventures there.
