Embracing Personal Beauty: A Journey of Self-Acceptance

Embracing Personal Beauty: A Journey of Self-Acceptance

My journey of self-acceptance began when I started to believe that people’s opinions of me were more significant than my own. Over the last three years, I was heavily influenced by others’ perceptions, and my confidence took a hit. However, a period of quarantine and solitude allowed me to reflect on how I could truly embrace who I am. This article shares my transformation and the importance of self-love and authenticity.

From External Validations to Self-Acceptance

For so long, I relied on external validations to determine my beauty. People often told me that I looked ugly, and for three years, I began to internalize those words. This lasted until I realized that validating my worth through others’ comments was no longer viable. I decided to stop relying on makeup and filters to feel good about myself. Instead, I started taking selfies without filters and using less makeup.

The Shift in Perception

One significant turning point was meeting my friend Rūkasu, who consistently told me how cute I was. His positive feedback started to seep into my subconscious. One day, I just finally accepted that I could be cute without makeup or filters. This realization allowed me to wear clothes I enjoyed without fear of judgment and to express my true self.

Life Before and After

Before

For years, I was constantly trying to fit into others' definitions of beauty. I wore makeup and filters to hide my perceived ugliness and made a conscious effort to dress in certain colors that people said made me look cute. However, these efforts often left me feeling like I was putting on a performance rather than living authentically.

After

Since my transformation, I feel truly comfortable in my skin. No longer do I worry about how I look in a video call or other public settings. I now wear clothes I enjoy without the added pressure of validation. This newfound freedom has positively impacted my self-esteem and overall well-being.

Reflections and Future Goals

Reflecting on this journey, I understand that true beauty comes from within. I no longer accept negative comments about my appearance and, if they do come, I am prepared to face them with confidence. My goal is to continue living authentically and spreading the message that self-love and acceptance are key to a fulfilling life.
