Experience Unparalleled at MIT: A Personal Reflection
I just graduated from MIT five days ago, flinging my mortarboard high into the air. While specific details may become outdated in a few years, I hope to share my experience in as much detail as possible.
Exhilarating but Challenging
Attending MIT was exhilarating. I skate boarded in the Kresge tunnels and took selfies with President Reif. However, the experience was also exhausting. I developed a caffeine addiction and pulled several all-nighters. Living in a dormitory with over 350 students was overwhelming, and my immune system never adjusted, leading to numerous illnesses. But the challenges were also fulfilling. I made unexpected accomplishments and gained valuable skills.
Academic and Personal Growth
At MIT, I learned to become more productive and resilient. I took graduate classes and classes at Sloan, and gained skills in areas such as ceramics, Greek history, and sailing. I also joined extracurricular activities, cheering for my area manager at the Boston Marathon and participating in a Concourse trip to Greece. My time at MIT taught me about perseverance and the importance of embracing challenges.
Unexpected Lessons
MIT also taught me about the world and myself. I realized that it is better to challenge oneself and step out of one's comfort zone rather than settling for mediocrity. I also learned the importance of being honest and forgiving, both of oneself and others. Surrounding oneself with people who value one's individuality and authenticity is crucial. Finally, I learned the value of asking people about themselves and embracing diversity and individuality.
Conclusion
The experience at MIT was one of a kind. The school offers unparalleled opportunities for academic and personal growth, and the connections I made with fellow students and faculty will last a lifetime. As I look forward to the next chapter, I feel confident and excited about the journey ahead. Congratulations to my fellow members of the Class of 2019, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
