Are there any parts of Luxembourg that should be avoided due to safety concerns? Though Luxembourg is known as one of the safest countries in Europe, like any other place, it is important to be aware of potential risks.

City Centers

City centers in Luxembourg, particularly areas with a high concentration of bars and clubs, may experience more petty crime, especially late at night. To stay safe, it is wise to stay alert and keep personal belongings secure. Familiarize yourself with your surroundings and avoid crowded or isolated areas at night.

Public Transport

While public transportation in Luxembourg is generally safe, it is advisable to be cautious during late-night travel, as incidents of theft can occur. Keep your belongings close and be aware of your environment, particularly on buses and trains.

Isolated Areas

As in any country, isolated or poorly lit areas may pose a risk, especially at night. Stick to well-populated and well-lit areas to ensure your safety. Avoid shortcuts or underpasses that are not well-lit, even during the day.

Areas to Avoid

Based on local knowledge and personal experience, certain areas around the Gare train station are highlighted as less desirable. These include:

Abrigado Centre: Areas around the Q8 petrol station in route de Thionville, near Gare and Bonnevoie. Rue de Hollerich: This street should be avoided altogether due to reported incidents of petty crime. Rue de Bonnevoie: This area is particularly dodgy at night, especially near Avenue de Gare. Night-use automated teller machines (ATMs) opposite the Gare: These areas are often frequented by individuals suspected of criminal activity.

However, it is important to note that actual incidents are relatively rare. News outlets rarely cover such minor crimes, and most reports are anecdotal. Even as a male with a height of 6'5", I have found the majority of these areas to be manageable with proper precautions.
