Galgotia College of Engineering and Technology Noida: A Comprehensive Review

Galgotia College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) in Noida has been an enlightening experience for many students, including me, who graduated in 2009 with a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. This review is a blend of personal experience, reflections, and advice that I believe can be valuable for prospective students and alumni alike.

Placement Opportunities

One of the standout features of this institution is the plethora of job opportunities it offers. More than 75% of the students from my batch secured placements, with an average package of Rs. 3 LPA (approximately $45 USD at the time) in renowned companies including TCS, Infosys, Satyam, HCL, and others. A testament to the college's commitment to employability, many students secured more than one offer.

Crucially, the college does not let this promising track record fade away even after graduation. Even if some students were unable to join their first placed job due to unforeseen circumstances like the recession in 2008-09, the college provided another chance. I myself got placed in Hewitt Associates at a salary of Rs. 2.3 LPA ($34 USD) three months after graduation, all thanks to the college's efforts in extending the placement opportunity.

Campus Life and Access

The college is situated on the highway, ensuring excellent connectivity. Although the fees may seem high, especially now costing around Rs. 1.3 LPA (approximately $19 USD), it's a reasonable price considering the quality of education provided. The hostel fees, however, were particularly steep, prompting some students to opt for off-campus accommodations.

Academic Environment and Faculty

Despite the higher charges, the academic environment at GCET is commendable. Most of the teachings were based on local authors, which can be a drawback as it might not provide a well-rounded education. However, the faculty did not pressure us to read from reference books. This approach needs to be re-evaluated to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.

The faculty was knowledgeable and experienced, and the college's success in placements is a testament to their dedication. It was observed that students who were actively involved in various committees, events, and activities often excelled post-graduation. This monitored environment encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones and seize opportunities, thereby enhancing their skills and confidence.

Room for Improvement

While the experience at GCET was largely positive, there are areas that need improvement. Lack of alumni meet invitations in the past decade is a notable gap that requires attention. Additionally, the lack of effort in labs, which were satisfactory but only marginally attended by students like myself, proved problematic during interviews. Students must take the initiative to learn the basics in labs, as ignoring them can lead to significant setbacks during interviews and assessments.

Conclusion: A College for Ambitious Minds

Galgotia College of Engineering and Technology is one of the best private institutions affiliated with the UPTU. A little hard work and dedication ensure placements in decent companies, and further opportunities can be found depending on one's aptitude, skills, and talent. Comparing it with NITs and IITs is unjust as each college has its unique strengths.

Most importantly, students must believe in their ability to overcome challenges and feel proud of the institution that shaped 4 crucial years of their lives. Self-belief and persistence can guide them through any obstacle.
