Mormons and Dan Reynolds: Understanding the Connection

Mormons and Dan Reynolds: Understanding the Connection

I had to google the name and then the band so I’m guessing most of us don’t much think about him. I never read his name before and, like most performers, he’s not relevant to anything in my life. Maybe young people in the church are familiar with him but, as it’s never come up in the family, probably not all that popular.

Similarity in Faith

I can’t call myself a huge fan of Imagine Dragons, but they put out some good songs. Demons, for example, is definitely my favorite. Outside of his music, I have no opinion about him as I haven’t paid any attention. I know he and I are members of the same Church and both attended BYU, so that boosts my opinion of him simply by association. But, other than that, I don’t typically follow musicians for anything other than their music.

Supporting LGBTQ Rights

He’s a cool dude and he seems to really want to help LGBTQ people understand that we want them to have equal protection under the law as everyone else does. That’s why he participates in the LoveLoud Music Festival to help spread that message. I hope others understand that while The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cannot condone same-sex marriage unless God changes His message, there’s nothing we can do; we are in full support of equal rights. No one should discriminate against LGBTQ people for housing, employment, etc. That’s the official Church policy.

Mormon Beliefs and Dan Reynolds

Mormons think the same thing about Dan Reynolds as they do about everyone else. We believe we are all brothers and sisters of a loving Heavenly Father. We are commanded to love each other without judgment.

While I can't speak for all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a.k.a. “Mormons,” I can give my entire answer in one word: “Who.” All the best.

He is honestly trying to live the gospel the best he can with how he has been raised. There is, as he has mentioned, “Mormon Culture,” and then there is “Church Doctrine.” I think he has more faith, charity, and love than I do; then again, maybe I have more than him. We are all found ungodly at the end of the day. I think we should minister more often with a full sense of direction and purpose. That being said, there might be more Dan Reynolds out there with different stories and perspectives.
