After enjoying close to a decade of living in the west end of Vancouver, I made the move to Calgary in 2004, driven by the desire for better weather – specifically, avoiding the northern part of Alberta where winters can be harsh. Navigating the freeways can be nerve-wracking, especially during winters with heavy snowfall. The public transit system, while functional, is often not publicly praised for its comfort and convenience. A return visit in 2014 after six months convinced me of this. The C Train was a relief at times, but relying on it as a sole form of transportation is not recommended, especially if you have mobility issues.
Choosing Edmonton
Edmonton, on the other hand, might be a better fit for those seeking more urban amenities coupled with a vibrant city life. Edmonton is known for its cultural offerings, including museums, art shows, and a more diverse music scene that goes beyond just country. The price of gas is lower, which could be a deciding factor for budget-conscious individuals.
